Completed preparations for full-fledged promotion with agreements with 14 institutions, companies, and hospitals
Promotion of AI development for disease prediction and diagnosis for four diseases
On 29th of April (Fri), Gangwon-do completed the signing of a financial support project agreement in order to promote the development of artificial intelligence (AI) for four diseases, which is the main project of the 「Gangwon Precision Medical Industry Regulation Free Zone Demonstration Project」.
The Gangwon Precision Medical Industry Regulatory Free Zone Demonstration Project is a diagnosis/prediction artificial intelligence (AI) development project for four diseases,
including chronic liver disease, prostate cancer, brain damage, and facial bone fracture.
A total of 12.3 billion won in state, local, and private funds will be invested in six projects, including the "Data Safety Zone" construction (two) project to create an ecosystem for safe
utilization of medical data, which was designated as a special free regulatory zone for the precision medical industry in Gangwon province, and It is planned to run until November
2023.
< Convention institutions, companies, hospitals>
Description | Numbers | Name of institutions, companies, hospitals |
Institutions | 4 | Gangwon-do, Gangwon-do Techno Park, Gangwon-do Regional Business Evaluation Group, Cha University Industry Academic Cooperation Foundation |
Companies | 7 | Douzon, AIDOT, LifeSemantics, Neurophet, Geovision, Gosopoog, Geomex Soft. |
Hospitals | 3 | Kangwon National University Hospital, Hallim Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, Yonsei University Wonju Severance Christian Hospital |
Looking at this demonstration project, it plans to develop four prediction and diagnosis solutions through collaboration with a developer (relocated to the province) and a local
hospital, and seek permission from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
AIDOT, a company specializing in medical artificial intelligence solutions that will promote development and demonstration of AI solutions for predicting and diagnosing chronic
(alcoholic) liver diseases, uses human-derived information collected and analyzed through microbiome analysis with Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital to treat
chronic (alcoholic) liver disease. It is expected to reduce the risk and cost of biopsy by developing a solution for diagnosing and predicting (alcoholic) liver disease.
LifeSemantics and Kangwon National University Hospital promote “Development and demonstration of an AI solution for predicting prostate cancer” to manage the risk of prostate cancer and develop a solution that enables follow-up of patients in the province to reduce unnecessary biopsies in existing prostate cancer examinations, thereby improving patient
outcomes. It seems to be able to lower the risk and cost and determine the condition and prognosis.
Neurophet, Wonju Yonsei Medical Center, and Kangwon National University Hospital promote 'Development and Demonstration of AI Solution for Treatment Strategy for Brain Injury Patients', and it is expected that side effects of treatment can be minimized by developing AI capable of precise treatment considering individual brain structure.
The 'development and demonstration of facial bone fracture prediction AI solution' project, which will be promoted by Geovision and Kangwon National University Hospital, is expected to improve treatment costs and medical services in the future by allowing local patients to diagnose and treat fractures in small hospitals that cannot read CT for facial bone fractures due to a lack of specialists.
In addition to demonstrating the development of four cases of AI solutions, the “Data Safe Zone” project (two locations) is underway to safely utilize genome information that has
been withheld due to the specificity of personal information in health and medical data since last January.
The 「Data Security Zone」 is designed to prevent medical data from leaking to the outside, so users who have been approved in advance can access only the physical security space
and only the analysis results can be exported with approval. Since it is a system that must be guaranteed for the development of medical artificial intelligence,
it is planned to be used in connection with the diagnosis and prediction of four diseases artificial intelligence (AI) development project.
In-jae Yoon , director of Gangwon Province's high-tech industry bureau said, "The financial support agreement signed today is beyond the regulatory framework for companies
designated as special zone operators in Gangwon Precision Medical Special Zone. Also, it will be a catalyst for rapid commercialization to preoccupy domestic and global markets.
Through this demonstration project, the stability, economy, and business feasibility of using medical data are verified. So we will do our best to help the precision medical industry in
Gangwon Province take a leap forward by reflecting it in the policy establishment of the precision medical development project."
